Sursringar, rare musical instrument from India

This sursringar was given to Chris Doddridge by the person who commisioned it from an Indian maker. As with all his instruments Chris plays in a low tuning, with the lowest note here being a D below the regular range of a double bass. Chris’s austere playing style is based on the Dhrupad tradition.
