Once sectionally bombed and repaired, Crimean bridge, the key link to Russia, turns five

The Kerch bridge linking the Crimea Peninsula to mainland Russia marked its fifth anniversary on Monday. The 19-kilometre (12-mile) bridge holds important strategic and symbolic value for Russia - it is a symbol of Moscow’s claim on Crimea and an essential link to the peninsula, which was annexed from Ukraine in 2014. Russian President Vladimir Putin personally opened the $3.7 million bridge in May 2018 by driving a truck across it. In October 2022, it was hit by what Moscow has said was a truck bomb. Road and rail traffic on the bridge were temporarily halted. Moscow blamed Ukrainian military intelligence for the attack. Kyiv did not claim responsibility, but Ukrainian officials had repeatedly threatened to strike the bridge in the past. Russia repaired the damaged section of the bridge and restored the flow of supplies to Crimea, which has been a key hub for the Russian military during the special military operation. __________________ ShanghaiEye focuses on producing top-quality contents.
