ROCK N’ ROLL! -

The 1970’s was an eclectic time for rock music. NBC News covered the various rock genres throughout the decade. In the mid and late 70’s punk rock was the rage in Great Britain. The NBC News magazine show “Weekend“ profiled the punk rock scene in the UK in a segment called “The New Elizabethans“. The segment features outstanding footage of the punk rock fashion, intense club scenes, bands like “The Damned“ and interviews with punk teens and “Sex Pistols“ manager Malcolm McLaren . Besides the fashion and music, the segment deals with the political and cultural impact of the punk movement during the time. On a more mellow side, the NBC News magazine show “First Tuesday“ did a segment on the early years band “Chicago“ in 1970. “Chicago“ was often described as “a rock bank with horns“. The segment looks at how the band started, their early success, and their recording and touring. Forty years later, after many lineup changes, “Chicago“ is still together and performing, including appearances on the NBC Today Show. Finally, in 1973 NBC News covered the arrival in New York of the tour of “Shock Rock“ master Alice Cooper and his band. Cooper was known for his outrageous costumes and stage antics and he did not disappoint in this story! The footage features a less-than-serious interview with Cooper on his private tour jet and a wide array of classic 70’sstage props and costumes. Go to to license any portion of this video.
