’Brave and bold’: Russian protester Marina Ovsyannikova in custody as fears for her safety grow

There are fears for the safety of a Russian television producer after she was arrested for denouncing her country’s war on Ukraine during a state-television broadcast on Monday night. Marina Ovsyannikova has been taken into custody in Moscow and, according to CNN, her whereabouts are unknown. Ms Ovsyannikova has been hailed as a hero after she held up an anti-war sign during a television news bulletin. The broadcaster almost immediately broke away from the protest however Ms Ovsyannikova could still be heard shouting: “Stop the war! No war! Stop the war! No war!“ The television producer could face up to 15 years in prison under new draconian laws passed by the Russian parliament.
