PS2 Longplay [069] Final Fantasy X-2 (part 1 of 9)

Played by: Connor Welcome to Square Enix’s Final Fantasy X Dressup and Fanservice Edition, also known as X-2. Basically, we get rid of all the icky boys, add a new girl, give them lots of different clothes, play some J-pop music and let them have a pillow fight. Not serious enough introduction for you? Well, consider this; FFX started with a city being destroyed, backed by some kind of growl-metal. X-2 starts with a J-pop concert... Having said that, I actually quite like this game. Looking past the fanservice mechanics, panty-shots, weird out-of-place hotsprings enabling the girls to wear bikins, the fact that Brother got weird, and everyone’s mouth looks horrible, the actual battle-mechanics are really quite interesting. Combat is a lot more fast-paced (unless you turn on ATB Wait like a wuss), the job-switching (hidden behind clothes-swapping) makes an interesting return and the story isn’t half-bad, with plenty of side-quests that actually make changes to some scenes later in the game. Most of that is just cosmetic, though, like different sentences being said and such, but it’s still a nice touch. As for the actual playthrough, I’m doing a full 100% run in one playthrough, which is actually harder than it sounds. There are lots of very specific things to do, miss just one and you might notice ten hours later that you’re 0.2% short and have to start over. This is the reason why I do the missions in what may seem like an arbitrary order, but it’s actually to be able to keep track of completion percentage. You can only see whole percents in the game, but it tracks fractions, so the only way is to know when the percent vaue should change and look for it, which you can only do when saving or in the “world hub“. Chapter one features most of the running around and battling, since I really don’t have any choice. But it will let you have a look at old locales from X and how they have, or have not, changed. Chapter two is pretty much more of the same, except that I cut out using O’aka to make lots of money (which I barely even use anyway) and at the end we get the Charm Bangle which eliminates random encounters. Chapter three makes heavy use of the Charm Bangle to speed things up, I more or less only fight bosses and to get Blue Bullet abilities. When I started I had the silly notion that I would get all of them, but I gave up on that pretty quickly for sanity-reasons. I get a fair amount of them anyway. Chapter four is basically just a long cutscene, looking at CommSpheres for story completion points. Chapter five on the other hand, is where everything is tied together and where lots of rather large side-quests are available. Due to the use of Charm Bangle, I’m kind of underpowered in this chapter, making for some interesting strategies here and there, but then I have to finish the optional super-dungeon Via Infinito and the optional super-boss. Even though I tried to cheeze my way through the harder parts of that dungeon, it is more or less impossible to beat the super-boss without decent levels (I was on the limit, I think, considering I spent like 40 Phoenix Downs), so I had to level up, making the end of the game ridiculously easy. Via Infinito takes around three hours to go through, so I edited out about 75% of it. It consists of 100 levels, with a boss on every 20 levels, so I show the first five of each section, then edit out the next 15 before the boss. This saves you, dear viewer, about two hours of random battles (Charm Bangle doesn’t work down there). I also edited out lots of the Chocobo breeding and some other stuff, the playthrough was long enough anyway. Since I did the 100% completion, there is an alternate ending that will make all you emotional people wipe tears from your eyes. The Bonus-video contains the different cutscenes and missions available in the only “real“ choice you get to make during the game. It also features four alternate outcomes of a detective-minigame in Chapter four, an alternate route to the hotspring during the mission in Chapter 2 (so I can show even more women bathing) and every dressphere change possible in sequence. - Disclaimer: Most videos by World of Longplays use SaveStates!
