Nigeria is becoming a key African logistics hub. Over 35% of the annual cargo turnover of West Africa passes through Nigerian ports. The main shipments to the region are made from Antwerp, Belgium. This amounts to about 17 million tons annually. And more than 6 million tons of this are received by Nigeria, as stated by the Nigerian Ports Authority. Moreover, the PTML port has become a key hub for transshipment of rolling cargo, primarily machinery products, from Asia to Europe and Africa. All this is happening against the backdrop of declining capacities of what were once the continent’s largest ports in South Africa due to the lack of modernization.
