The new ZF Thruster Series – From the Design to Testing

The compact and maintenance friendly design of the new ZF thruster series, aligned with its outstanding quality and all its functionalities, provides powerful and smooth sailing comfort for various applications. It was developed for vessel owners, fleet operators, naval architects and shipyards that want to achieve great performance while providing robust and economic vessel operation. The new ZF Thruster design will be available in various thruster types; Well Mounted Azimuth Thruster (AT), Retractable Azimuth Thruster (RT), Tunnel Thruster (TT), Deck mounted Thruster (DM) and Stern mounted Thruster (SM). Additionally, the Well Mounted Azimuth Thruster (AT) can also be delivered as a hybrid system with an additional electric motor on the main (diesel) engine. Everything from the design of the thruster to the tests was carried out by ZF. Testing such large marine propulsion systems requires special precautions, but ZF’s modular 7,000 kW test stand is ideally suited.
