Latvia: Reenactment celebrates 99th anniversary of Christmas Battles in Jelgava
A reenactment of a First World War battle was fought out in the city of Jelgava, Saturday, to commemorate the 99th anniversary of the ’Christmas Battles,’ which Latvian soldiers took part in alongside Russia and against Germany in the Latvian city almost a century ago.
The Christmas Battles, which took place between 5 and 11 January, 1917, were the Russian Army’s biggest military campaign against Germany on the Riga front. The VI Siberian Rifle Corps were the main assault force of the battles and included
