The Story of the USS Princeton CVL-23, with dedication (no sound)
The USS Princeton (CVL-23) was a WWII light carrier in the Pacific War. It was sunk in the Battle of Leyte Gulf. This presentation tells the story of the ship, from beginning to end. Over 350 men were lost on October 24, 1944 between the Princeton (CVL-23) and the Birmingham (CL-62), who was alongside fighting fires when the torpedo storage on the Princeton exploded. I created this video for my Dad on his 98th birthday (7/21/17). He is a Princeton survivor. He was Pharmacist’s Mate on the Princeton and a “plank owner,“ aboard the ship from commissioning all the way to it’s tragic sinking. This is dedicated to the crew and families of the Princeton and Birmingham but especially to my Dad. With Respect and Love. (Update: Dad passed away Dec, 14, 2020, at the wonderful age of 101)
