The city is facing five forest fires that erupted simultaneously, creating a serious emergency. According to the mayor, the fight against the flames will not end in the coming hours. He stated that the battle would most likely continue throughout the entire night. As a precautionary measure, over 100 families have been evacuated from affected areas. The Ministry of Education has decided to cancel classes in the Quito district. Huge plumes of smoke were seen rising from the eastern outskirts of the capital. Two major fire hotspots have been concentrated in that part of the city. Many important roads have been closed off due to the spreading fires. In the residential neighborhood of Bellavista, residents formed human chains to help pour water on the streets. The president has ordered the mobilization of the armed forces to support firefighting efforts. Reports of ashfall have been confirmed in the northern parts of Quito.
