Le Moulinet

Le Moulinet is a Cotillion published by Thomas Hurst in 1769, and interpreted by George Williams in 2024. It is a dance in a square formation. Like all Cotillions this one consists of a series of “changes“ each followed by the same chorus or figure. Hurst provides 14 changes, but this version uses a subset of them — the dance “Le Medecin Extravagante“ has all 14. The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the figures more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color will change each time through the minor set.
