Warplanes, Hi-tech weapons…! Taiwan ups ante against China as latter begins new round of war games
China launched a new round of war games near Taiwan on October 14, drawing anger in Taipei. Beijing drew condemnation from Taipei’s government for not offering a schedule of drills. Reacting promptly, Taiwan’s military swung into action and conducted land, air and sea drills. Taiwan’s Defence Ministry released a publicity video on October 14 showing its military holding exercises. Taiwan had been on alert for more war games since last week’s national day speech by President Lai Ching-te. In his speech, President Lai stated that China had no right to represent Taiwan while offering cooperation. The “Joint Sword-2024B“ drills are being conducted in the Taiwan Strait and surrounding areas. China views Taiwan as its own territory, complicating the island’s international relations.
