The Israeli military on Wednesday bombed the densely populated southern outskirts of Beirut for the first time in days and also targeted the southern Lebanese city of Nabatieh, where local officials were holding a meeting, killing at least 16 people, including the mayor, Lebanese officials reported. Lebanon’s caretaker prime minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the attack, stating that it had “intentionally targeted” a local government meeting. Nabatieh’s mayor, Ahmad Kahil, along with several members of a local relief team that had collaborated with the United Nations for over a year, were killed.
