The Making Of Renegade (M4SONIC Launchpad)

Hi everyone. When I began making this Launchpad project ‘Renegade’ I wanted it to be the most technically difficult and complex live performance yet, mainly because I’d spent some time away from using the Launchpad and wanted to really push myself to get back into it. Every time I made a mistake during filming I had to start from the very beginning. There’s nothing pre-recorded in my videos. I don’t cue light shows or session clips in Ableton. I play 64 one shots samples spread across 8 Ableton drum racks in real time. In my headphones I have a metronome (click) that helps me stay in time because the more excited I get the faster the performance becomes. After spending a day filming I watched back the footage and decided it wasn’t good enough. A week later I tried again, but failed to get something I was really happy with.
