Sonata No. 28 in A major, Op. 101 was composed in 1816 and published a year later with a dedication to Beethoven’s student, a well-regarded interpreter of his music, the Baroness Dorothea von Ertmann. Highly romantic, this sonata challenges the performer with complex counterpoint and tonal relationships.
