Film Making 101 Tutorial - L & J Cuts

Most of use know how to edit together a basic film project. But do you know what an “L Cut“ is? Or a “J Cut“? In this Film Making 101 tutorial I will explain where these types of cuts can be useful. The most common cut (or ’edit’) is the ’straight’ cut; both video and audio cut over to a new shot at the same time. Easy. In an L cut, the video layer is cut first and the audio can be heard trailing into the new shot. On your editing timeline, this creates an L shape - hence the name of the cut. In a J cut,
