Schwarzenegger Slams Europe for Russia Fuel Purchase

The former Governor of California, Arnold Schwarzenegger, on Tuesday slammed European nations for continuing to buy oil from Russia, saying it was “financing the war“ in Ukraine. Schwarzenegger, who has long campaigned against environmental pollution, said the war in Ukraine was one more reason to stop using fossil fuels. Schwarzenegger was addressing a climate conference entitled “Austrian World Summit“ in Vienna. His speech was live-streamed from Toronto, Canada, where the actor is currently filming a new series. Schwarzenegger cited research showing that Europe paid Russia tens of billions of dollars for energy imports in the first two months of the year. “No matter how you look at it, we have blood on our hands because we are financing the war,” he said. “We must do whatever it takes to eliminate our addiction to fossil fuels,” he added. “We must be part of the solution, not part of the problem. Failure is no option here.” UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres also delivered a pre-recorded video message at the event in which he warned of a “dangerous disconnect“ between what scientists and citizens are demanding to curb climate change, and what governments are actually doing about it.
