Flooding in Plainfield, Vermont destroys bridge, apartments

Raging flood waters knocked down a bridge and tore away much of an apartment building in Plainfield, Vermont. Hurricane Beryl’s remnants dumped more than 6 inches (15 centimeters) of rain in just a few hours Wednesday and Thursday on parts of Vermont, destroying and damaging homes, knocking out bridges and cutting off towns. Two people were killed by the floodwaters, authorities said.
