The band’s early material has been compared by critics to Deep Purple but by the mid 1980s Whitesnake had moved away from the early blues influenced hard rock to a more commercial heavy metal style. Whitesnake was named the 85th greatest hard rock band of all time by VH1. Whitesnake recorded the EP Snakebite which was released in 1978 and included a cover of a Bobby “Blue“ Bland song “Ain’t No Love in the Heart of the City“, which became the first hit from the band. The EP had some success in the UK and subsequent reissues of this EP included four bonus tracks from Coverdale’s second solo album Northwinds produced by Roger Glover.
