It is favored for its expressive rawness and a great deal of freedom. In the Czech Republic many believe that a pianist should come from Moravia in order to successfully champion Janáček’s piano music, possibly because of its emphasis on melodics which draw from diction of the language – Berman’s powerful and imaginative recording proves otherwise.
