Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve is a cover version of Rolling Stones song from 1965 😲 #coversong
Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve (1997) sampled an orchestral version of the Rolling Stones song “The Last Time“ from 1965. The orchestral version was recorded by The Andrew Oldham Orchestra - Andrew Oldham was the original manager and producer of the Rolling Stones.
According to the Verve’s guitarist, Nick McCabe, the dispute actually depended not on the sample but Ashcroft’s (the lead singer of The Verve) vocal melody, which a musicologist determined was a half-time version of the Rolling Stones’ “Last Time“ melody.
