Saturn 5 Moon Rocket’s Main Engine, the F-1 | NASA Apollo Program Space Travel HD

Visit my website at - the Saturn V moon rocket’s 1st stage had five of these huge F-1 engines. The complex tubing you see extending from the upper nozzle to the lower nozzle skirt, carried exhaust gases from the turbo-pump to the lower skirt -creating a boundary layer effect. This relatively cool gas layer protected the skirt from the main engine hot exhaust gases. The main engine and upper nozzle were liquid cooled using the RP-1 (kerosene) fuel as coolant. It ran through all the complex tubing visible in the engine and nozzle. The F-1 is still the most powerful engine ever built.
