The Adventures of Batman & Robin (SNES) Playthrough - NintendoComplete
A playthrough of Konami’s 1994 Super NES platformer, The Adventures of Batman & Robin.
Played through on the hard difficulty level.
This might just be the best looking Konami game on the SNES - not that the great majority of their games didn’t impress (Contra III, Axelay, Ninja Turtles IV - they were all top-quality games in the SNES library), but this is one of those few games where you could easily mistake it for an early 32-bit game than a 16-bit one, a lot like how Sunsoft’s Return of the Joker on the NES looked scarily close to a Sega Genesis game.
It captures the mood of the cartoon incredibly well, and what really makes it special is that it’s constantly changing up the game play. Before you ever get bored of basic platforming, you’re in the batmobile, chasing the Riddler through a pseudo-3D maze, or standing on a roller-coaster running the track at full speed.
And check out that background when you get onto the blimp - it looks like it was ripped right out of Night Strikers, the old arcade scaling shooter - it does an unbelievable job at faking a true 3D backdrop with the heavy mode-7 effects being let loose.
Now, I don’t mean to detract from the rest of the game by focusing so much on the graphics - it’s an excellent game in all regards. The presentation really is just a good indicator of quality for the overall game. It’s obvious that the team that this did game cared a great deal about getting it right, and the amount of time and talent invested in it pays off in some truly extraordinary ways.
