As of July 2021, he is ranked as the second best active super middleweight by ESPN, and third by The Ring, and the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board. Plant is scheduled to fight the reigning WBA (Super), WBC, WBO and The Ring super middleweight champion Canelo Álvarez in a title unification bout on November 6, 2021 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada, United States. The winner of the bout is set to become the first undisputed super middleweight champion in boxing history.
