Hawker Sea Hurricane

As the Battle of Britain came to a close during October 1940, the Luftwaffe began to threaten UK bound shipping in the sea lanes off the north coast of Ireland and the Western Approaches to the UK, with long range Focke Wulf Fw 200 Condor bombers. A decision was made to adapt fighter aircraft that could be launched from merchant ships as required, but abandoned after use, in an effort to counter the Fw200 Condors.
