An Unnecessarily Heavy Box w/ Epoxy & Aluminum Honeycomb Accents

Last year I was commissioned to create a gift for an engineer. Here’s what I knew: He was an aviation geek, hexagon lover, and (almost hypocritically) a connoisseur of horrendously over-engineered designs. This is the story of how I designed a wildly impractical box. Blending typical woodworking techniques for making a box with some composite materials (aluminum honeycomb and epoxy), I came up with a design that both looked cool and felt substantial in hand.
