Louis Moreau Gottschalk (1829-1869) was an American composer and pianist, though he spent most of his life outside of the United States. Many of his compositions are considered an early precursor of rag time and jazz music. IMSLP indicates that this piece was probably first published in 1864. Klaus Kaufmann (b. 1948) is an Austrian pianist and teacher. He is the Professor of Piano at the Mozarteum University for Music and the Performing Arts of Salzburg.
