Bojack Horseman - A Bag of Mulch

In the show Wanda and Bojack are dating, but he’s completely paranoid about it not being right and going to be heartbroken again. He keeps doubting them, and in the midst of all this, they keep seeing Diane and Mr. Peanutbatter having their marriage fall apart. Wanda’s joke is hilarious on the ground that her being on a coma for 10 years gives you the impression she’s clueless. When she finishes the first part of the joke you disregard it (as Bojack does) as some of her weird nonsense, so the stories intersecting catch you off guard. It is also a metaphor to them: Some things take time (the story to make sense, their relationship to work out), and the fact that it all ties together to what they were experiencing makes it more surprising. So, funny because it was unexpected, it explains her view of their relationship and turns the tables on what you think about her.
