Born and raised in Belarus but now based in Poland, Kostya Outta first emerged just over a decade ago. On the success of early tracks such as ’High Flyers’ and ’Silence’, Kostya’s groovy melodic sound was born, making him a new breed of progressive house producers to watch going forward. A continued evolution in sound across the last three years has seen the Belarusian artist rise into one of the genre’s most in demand talents. World class DJs Eelke Kleijn, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, among others, have been steadfast supporters along the way, while releases via Afterglow, Deepwibe Underground and Mango Alley have been discography highlights. Now, following a well-received debut on Dmitry Molosh’s Proportion imprint, Kostya adds Replug to his resume with ’Space’, alongside a remix from Mike Griego. The charming original mix crashes in and sets any preconceived ideas of Kostya’s music alight; forecasting jet force propulsions with layers of cleverly co-axed percussion, and alluring signal bending synths. Cruising effortlessly across the first movement, its rapid-fire sequences of rhythm, granular textures and rejuvenating themes emerge in sequential fashion, travelling to the very edges of a colourful progressive hinterland. Fully realized across a timely break, Kostya’s trance-inducing melodies and soaring overlays marry beautifully, consciously withholding energy as effects orbit and percussion rides, eventually resulting in a glowing apex and appropriately restrained drop; one which astute dancefloors will certainly appreciate. The release concludes with Mike Griego returning to the label with the lone interpretation of ’Space’. Based in Buenos Aires, the Argentinean DJ and producer has carved out a unique place in the electronic underground. His exacting design, addictive grooves and avant-garde melodies have made for a transcendent sound that continues to unify dancefloors around the world. With a career that now approaches fifteen years and one hundred discography credits, Mike would have to be considered one of progressive music’s elite artists, earning the praise of genre trendsetters Hernan Cattaneo, Lee Burridge and Nick Warren, among others. A meticulous discography reflects his choosy nature; with Replug and Sudbeat serving as the primary landing spots for his musical output. 2023 has seen further successes for Mike, with the launch of his ’A Line In The Sand’ imprint being flanked by standout projects for Sudbeat and Tale & Tone. Continuing what has been a prolific year, Mike now makes a welcome return to Replug with a titanic take on ’Space’. Taking square aim at the dancefloor, Mike’s creative attitude reveals itself; stepping decisively on the gas and steering into shadowy transgressions, as grooves pulse and drums roll. Chirpy vocal stabs and dusty claps add to it’s capsizing swing, creating tension that eventually gets resolved during the main break, as soaring sonics burst open and oscillate in kaleidoscopic fashion, perfectly setting up a vortex-like crescendo and thunderous finale. It’s a riveting conclusion to the release, one where Kostya Outta makes an impressive Replug debut, and Mike Griego reaffirms his place as one of the label’s most steadfast contributors.
