The “Definitive“ Versions of Two Classic Space Anime

Why do I feel like original Legend of the Galactic Heroes is the best version of that story, while I’d only recommend the new Space Battleship Yamato 2199? There’s gotta be some reason, and that reason - unsurprisingly - has everything to do with the kind of story that they’re trying to tell.
