The Story of Beauty & the Beast : Part number 01 The story of Beauty and the Beast is a classic fairy tale that has been told and retold in various forms throughout the years. The most popular version of the story is the one that was written by French author Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve and published in 1740. The story begins with a wealthy merchant who has three daughters. The two older daughters are selfish and vain, while the youngest daughter, named Beauty, is kind-hearted and beautiful. One day, the merchant comes across a magnificent castle in the woods. He decides to take shelter there for the night, but when he plucks a rose from the castle’s garden as a gift for Beauty, he is confronted by the Beast, a terrifying creature who demands that the merchant either give him one of his daughters or stay at the castle forever.
