WHAT IF KING MAGNIFICO & QUEEN AMAYA WERE AN EVIL COUPLE? In this alternate universe King Magnifico’s objectives are truly evil and he has no good intentions whilst Queen Amaya puts up a front to their subjects as a gracious queen who supports her righteous husband but in reality she is just as evil as he is. In this story Asha’s mother, father and grandfather started a secret society based on their beliefs on how wrong the King and Queen’s system was. They would teach people to hold on to their dreams and work hard for them whilst also wishing on a star for good luck. They believed it was wrong to take so many wishes and only grant a few in return. King Magnifico and Queen Amaya had to put a stop to any potential rebellion so they crushed Asha’s mother, father and grandfather. They also seized the opportunity to adopt 6 year old Asha and use her as propaganda by lying to the people of Rosas and telling them that Asha’s family was in a tragic event caused by the pursuit of their wishes. They presented themselves as saviours and announced Asha as a princess, using her as a symbol of trust to their people. King Magnifico and Queen Amaya manipulated Asha by feeding her lies about the dangers of wishes. However as Asha grew older she took on the inquisitive nature of her birth parents and became more curious, questioning the ideologies of her adopted parents. This would make it difficult for the King and Queen to keep up their facade and because of this Asha became suspicious of them. This prompted her to wish on a star to find answers and finally discover what they were truly up to. A villainous couple working together as royally evil co-conspirators was something I couldn’t stop thinking about from the concepts and having a Disney Villain duet song was such a missed opportunity! I made Asha the first ever Disney Princess to gain her title through adoption since no official Disney Princess has ever gained her title in this way. I think for Disney’s 100th anniversary movie it would have been great to not only see a new princess join their official line up, but to also see a new way of becoming a princess! Asha is half North African and the indigenous Amazigh people of North Africa have a history of intricate head pieces and hair braiding techniques as part of their cultural traditions so I decided on a full head of long thick braids with hair ornaments like beads for this version of Asha! I used the concept of Star as an ethereal shape-shifting Star Boy for this version of him. I wrote this song to pay homage to all the great Disney villains of the past that came before this version of King Magnifico and Queen Amaya and a big thank you goes out to Caleb Hyles for featuring on my original song as King Magnifico! ✨ I have so many original songs and covers that I can’t wait for you all to hear so make sure to like, subscribe and hit that notification bell!
