The End Of A Love Affair - Chaka Khan

If ever there was a song that deserved the title “saloon song“, it’s this 1950 masterpiece of lyrics and melody by Edward C. Redding. The song has been covered by great singers like Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, and Nat “King“ Cole. All of their versions are treasures and I recommend them to anyone interested in hearing examples of great singers singing great songs. In my humble opinion, here Chaka Khan produces what I believe is the definitive version. The lyrics and the music and her voice are a perfect marriage. This clip is from her 2000 performance at BET Jazz Channel. Lineup: Chaka Khan - vocals Mark Stephens - piano Andy Weiner - keyboard, flugelhorn Vincent Colaiuta - drums Melvin Davis - bass
