Eagle Cap Wilderness | Little Switzerland of Oregon | West Fork Wallowa River Trail to 6 Mile Meadow

The second to last hike I did before my injury sidelined me, the trailhead parking lot is 5-6 miles south of Joseph. There are multiple camping areas within a mile and a gondola that operates in the summer and takes people up to the top of Howard Mountain. This was a 12 mile round trip hike with I think 1500 feet of elevation gain? We ended up seeing a total of 3 people on this entire walk, all on the way back to the truck. The leaves were a wonderful yellow and it was around 50 degrees, a perfect day to see this area. This mountainous area of eastern Oregon contains about 100 trails and probably 10-12 trailhead access points, I do want to go back!
