Claude Barzotti - Madame - (1983-01-09) • TopPop

Claude Barzotti, real name: Francesco Barzotti (Châtelineau, July 23, 1953) is a Belgian singer. Although he was born in Belgium, he grew up mainly in Sicily (Villarosa) where he was raised by his grandfather. He was not a good student, only the music lessons interested him. His parents supported him in his interest in music and bought him his first guitar when he was eight years old. His parents emigrated from Belgium to Switzerland, then to Luxembourg and finally settled in Belgium, in Court-Saint-Étienne (Walloon Brabant). At that time, Claude is 18 and goes back to live with his parents. Claude later returned to Italy to start a music career. His big break came when he was discovered by Pierre and Michel Célie who let him record his first album. Claude had every confidence in them and let them decide for themselves about the studio, the lyrics, the songs, etc. ’Madame’ was a great success in 1981, selling more than 400,000 copies. The very first version of ’Madame’ Barzotti had already released in 1975. But he had his great success in the eighties. He became famous with his success song Le Rital in 1983 (no. 1 in France). He is especially famous in Canada. ’Madame’ reached the tipparade in the Netherlands in July 1983. This video was recorded for the tv program ’Zomerhits’ of July 30, 1983.
