Diesel - Goin’ Back To China - 09-06-1979 • TROS Top 50

Diesel is a Dutch rock group that became one of the relatively few Dutch acts to chart in the U.S. when their song “Sausalito Summernight“ entered the U.S. Top 40 in 1980. Diesel was created in October 1978 by ex-Kayak drummer Pim Koopman. The group consisted of Koopman (drums, keyboard and vocals), Rob Vunderink (guitar/lead vocals, composer and lyricist), Mark Boon (guitar, composer and lyricist), and Frank Papendrecht (bass). Their first album, Watts in a Tank, was released in the Netherlands in 1980. One of its tracks, “Goin’ Back to China“ was released as a single and became a Top 40 hit. The single “Sausalito Summernight“ became a hit in Holland and reached #33 in the Dutch Top 40. In Canada it became #1 and in the Billboard Top 100 it reached to #25! Not many bands in Holland could beat that! This TROS TOP50 recording was first broadcast by TROS TV on 9 June 1979. Watch our great music videos ❯ More TopPop?
