Race Drivin’ (SNES) - Original x SA-1 Comparison

DOWNLOAD: I was challenged to convert this SA-1 game and I accepted the challenge. A game that used to run at about 4 FPS now runs at about 30 FPS with the SA-1 chip, runs much smoother without getting too fast. In addition it includes some enhancements to make the game feel more realistic. The SA-1 is an enhancement chip that runs at MHz instead of SNES CPU’s MHz. Just like my other conversions, this one moves the entire memory to the SA-1 side and moves almost the whole processing to the SA-1 CPU side. Just like Super R-Type, this uses SA-1 as coordinator but uses parallelism even more compared to Super R-Type, since most of the timing logic still stays on the SNES side and runs in parallel with the SA-1 chip. In addition, the game now uses all memory RAM extensively: I-RAM, BW-RAM and WRAM. With all optimizations included, the game runs up to 1000% faster compared with original.
