Van der Graaf Generator - Live in Florence (February 14th, 1972)

Van der Graaf Generator Space Electronic, Florence, Italy February 14th, 1972 Audience Recording Quality: C At first glance this show has an incredibly stacked setlist, which is very true. However, it cannot be said for certain if “Afterwards” was actually played at the beginning of this particular show. In any case, the acoustic Hammill solo track tunes the air for the show in a similar manner Bern does, easing the audience in before enveloping them in “Darkness”. Similarly to the shows in Milan and Rome, the audio quality of this show is decent but still quite murky, with some parts being worse than others (such as 4 minutes into “After the Flood”). However it remains clear that the band are as powerful as ever. Banton’s playing in this show is something to be admired, especially during “Killer”. Banton, Evans, and Jackson have lots of fun during “Theme One”, with lots of improvisation putting it at around 6 minutes. At the very end of the show they play “Refugees”, making this the only recording we have of Van der Graaf playing this song in a live setting before 2005. It would become a frequently played song during Hammill’s live shows, but not a full band version like this. Unfortunately it cuts at the very end and we are unable to hear the ending of the song, but at least most of it was recorded. Excellent show with a special setlist. 0:00 - Afterwards * 5:42 - Darkness (11/11) 13:11 - Lost 27:34 - Lemmings 42:17 - After the Flood 55:59 - Killer 1:05:46 - Theme One 1:12:18 - Octopus 1:25:47 - Refugees (Incomplete) ** * - Last live recording ** - Only live recording (until 2005) Download: #cxJJDgqNOx0MMQk1UBmmuQ Peter Hammill: Vocals & Guitar Guy Evans: Drums Hugh Banton: Keyboards & Bass Pedals David Jackson: Saxophone & Flute
