World Habitat Day 2021 message from UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif

World Habitat Day, opens Urban October and falls this year on 4 October 2021. The purpose of World Habitat Day is to raise awareness and action around sustainable urbanization. The theme for this year’s World Habitat Day is Accelerating urban action for a carbon-free world. Cities are responsible for some 70 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions with transport, buildings, energy, and waste management accounting for the bulk of urban greenhouse gas emissions. The UN-Habitat Executive Director Maimunah Mohd Sharif is attending this year’s Global Observance of World Habitat Day in Yaounde, Cameroon. Read more
