However, as the year progressed and investigations proved that Tonya had knowledge of the planned attack on Nancy Kerrigan and failed to report it to the authorities. Because of her involvement, the USFSA voted to strip her of the title and opted not to award it to Michelle Kwan, who placed 2nd here.
