The King’s Singers - If ye love me (Thomas Tallis)
Filmed live in King’s College Chapel, for broadcast at Easter 2021, this is Thomas Tallis’ motet ’If ye love me’. A masterpiece of the simple, protestant English style demanded by the new Church of England in the mid-1500s, this piece has become a favourite amongst choirs around the world. Whilst we have released other versions of this, including a ’Sing along with The King’s Singers’ video version, we wanted to share this live performance in the magical surroundings and acoustics of our spiritual home of King’s College, Cambridge, in the hope it brings peace and comfort this Easter.
If ye love me, keep my commandments.
And I will pray the Father,
and he shall give you another comforter,
that he may ’bide with you forever;
E’en the sp’rit of truth.
John 14:15–17
