Classical Jazz Drumming: Igor Stravinsky - Le Sacre du printemp
Hi everyone,
For today I wanted to share with you a new updated version of my favorite piece in the whole wide world, together with the second movement of Ravel’s piano Concerto in G Major.
I actually had planned to randomly share this video last year, but then I thought it was a much better idea (or at least it would be more meaningful ) to do it today. The reasons are that:
1. It’s spring (duh)
2. It’s been 10 years since I did my first version of it
3. It’s been 110 years since the first part was composed, and 109 years since it was premiered.
4. Last, but not least, it is my 35th birthday.
I could give a million reasons why I love this piece, but I guess what resonates the most it’s the daring element in all the dimensions of this composition. And to me, as a drummer, this has been the engine that keeps me happy and motivated. I just love try out new concepts and ideas, and even though sometimes it doesn’t work as planned, the mystery of “let’s see what happens“ makes it worth it.
