Sunshine Skyway Bridge - St Petersburg, FL

Aerial of the Sunshine Skyway Bridge, shot by Tampa Photographer The Skyway Bridge connects St Petersburg and Pinellas County to Manatee County Florida. The bridge began construction in 1982, after the original bridge was destroyed on May 9th, 1980 at 7:33am when the freighter Summit Venture crashed into it. 35 people people as the Summit Venture knocked out a section of bridge. 6 cars and a Greyhound Bus, unaware the broken section of bridge due to the fog, plunged to the ocean. Amazingly one man survived the 150ft fall in his car. The new bridge bridge opened on April 20th, 1987. Parts of the old bridge are now used as the North Skyway and South Skyway fishing piers.
