The Goddess of Death of the Proto Indo-European Mythology and Folklore (Kolyo, Calypso, Hel)
How did our Indo-European ancestors think somebody went from living to dead? They were taken by the goddess of the Netherworld, a goddess that would eventually be called Hel in Old Norse. But her origins are older than that and her name was Kolyo the Coverer, the Goddess of the Grave.
Here I present the mythology around death and the Indo-European Goddess that was a representation of it.
