During his first joint address to Congress on April 28, President Joe Biden said the country must “root out systemic racism in our criminal justice system.” He pointed to the recent conviction of a former Minneapolis police officer for the murder of George Floyd as an opportunity to make widespread changes. “We have a giant opportunity to bend to the arc of the moral universe toward justice. Real justice,” Biden said. The president delivered his address live at the U.S. Capitol, but the crowd was socially distanced and significantly scaled back due to COVID-19 protocols.
