Wesley Joseph - Monsoon - Live Performance | Vevo DSCVR Artists To Watch 2023
It’s always good to have options. When Wesley Joseph moved from Birmingham to London back in 2016, his interests were varied. Dude grew up loving animation; from Pixar narratives to Gorillaz videos, his eyes were glued to the way movies could capture a feel… and the way that the accompanying music could enhance a viewer’s emotional experience. That’s one reason he connected with the OG Horse hip-hop collective, a group of art-centric creatives in his home town of Walsall, that included DSCVR alum Jorja Smith. Joseph’s uni move was to learn more about film, getting a grip on the craft so he could render the kind of enticing art he adored. But when this Young Thug fan hit London, he also began to take music more seriously, turning his bedroom into a studio, and applying his perfectionist personality to a growing cache of beats and tunes that blend hip-hop, soul, R&B, and what his admirers now call “future funk.” “Where I’m coming from we soulful, hopeful,” he sings on one of his earliest tracks, “Thrilla.” The process behind his “sound inspires imagery, imagery inspires words” mantra takes a minute, but growth has been constant. As “Imaginary Friends,” “Ghostin’,” and “Patience” made their way to fans’ playlists, it was obvious that quality wasn’t an element to be fretted over. Last year’s ‘ULTRAMARINE’ album, released on Joseph’s own EVIL TWIN imprint, cemented supporters’ beliefs that he’s on his way. “This is the beginning,” he wrote in the comments of the “Thrilla” video. “Biggest love to everyone who’s here for the ride.” With his next project ’GLOW’ dropping on Feb 17th via Secretly Canadian 2023 it’s time to take notice of Wesley Joseph. Check these performances; the ride is gonna be fun.

Why does this nonsense phrase appear in so many old newspapers?
