Quick tip for hitting and one of the drills that can be done to help!
A lot of you have seen my Reverse S Curve posts for the torso rotation. The arm follows the torso rotation pattern as well. When we pull back we have a slight side bend to the hitting side and then a side bend to the other side as the torso rotates forward. In the context of volleyball this is key for getting our shoulder and arm to move in a certain path to get in an optimal position and contact point to hit. The amount of side bend and movement within the Reverse S is different for everyone but it’s there.
After the pull back and hip shift, it’s ideal to have that arm come up and around on the ball as the torso rotates. This follows the torso rotation pattern. The problem is sometimes athletes don’t have this pattern and can bring the arm straight forward first. Not only can this change the trajectory of the ball (depending on how we get there and where the ball is etc), but it can reduce the effectiveness of
