Craters of the Moon National Monument - Idaho

08/06/14 Craters of the Moon National Monument is located about 18 miles south west of the town of Arco. It is a preserved area representing a massive lava field from flows that originated from the Great Rift approximately 15,000 years ago. President Calvin Coolidge used the 1906 Antiquities Act to proclaim Craters of the Moon National Monument “a weird and scenic landscape, peculiar to itself“.
