A little egg survived and became a sweet friend. The mother had an egg binding problem. Fortunately I knew my way around budgies by now .,. When the time’s right, when she’s a flight expert, this little parakeet will return to the owner of her mother. For those of you interested, here’s how to help a bird (such as a budgie, or a hen for example) with egg bound (a stuck egg): “A warm bath followed by a lubricant such as Vaseline or olive oil placed just inside and around the vent may help pass the egg. Place the mother in a dark secluded place to nest away from other birds. Seek urgent veterinary help if she’s still unable to lay the egg and is showing signs of distress.“ If no vet is available, softly massage the egg out. Please take your time, be patient and do not break the egg if not necessary. Preventing egg-bound is mostly possible by giving the right diet, enough calcium and a proper nesting place.
