Harry Macarthy wrote the lyrics and adapted the music from the tune, The Irish Jaunting Car, by Valentine Vousden. The song was published in 1861, by A.E. Blackmar & Bro., New Orleans. During the four years of the war, this tune went through twelve editions and became the most frequently published Confederate piece of music.
This performance was recorded in 2013, during the 150th Anniversary Battle of Gettysburg reenactment.
